Types of Collages

Decoupage

Decoupage is a special kind of collage technique by cutting out paper designs and putting them on a different surface. Especially popular is decoupage using napkins. Choose decorative napkins with designs that you want to use. You start by separating the layers of the napkin. Apply a decoupage medium, such as Mod Podge, to the surface using a paintbrush. Carefully place the cut or ripped-out napkin design onto the surface. Smooth out any wrinkles or air bubbles using your fingers or a soft brush. Apply another layer of decoupage medium on top of the napkin design to seal it. Let the project dry completely. Optionally, apply additional layers of decoupage medium for more protection.

Collage Clusters

By adding more and more layers, these collages go beyond flat, two-dimensional surfaces. They can also incorporate various objects, textures, and materials to create depth and a sense of physicality.

Digital Collages

Digital collage is a form of visual art that involves combining various digital images, graphics, and elements to create a cohesive and visually appealing composition. Unlike traditional collage, which uses physical materials like paper, photographs, and found objects, digital collage is created using digital tools and software. With digital collages the conceptualization is very important as the electronic collage objects are basically endless.

Snippet Rolls

Snippet Rolls have become more popular with the fabrication of junk journals. They are snippets of paper or fabric scraps put on a strip of canvas or other plain fabric. The width and length of a snippet roll is determined by the person who makes it. Usually, the collage process involves a few layers with all sorts of materials. Once the strip has been embellished, it is rolled up and stored for later use.
