Here is a brief summary of the gel printing process:

  • It is usually done on a gel printing plate made of silicon and can be obtained in any crafts store. In addition to the gel plate, you will need acrylic paint, a brayer, paper, stencils, stamps, and other tools and materials to create texture.

  • After you have gathered your materials of choice, you apply a small amount of acrylic paint onto the plate and use the brayer to spread it out evenly. You can use just one color or as many as you like at once.

  • Once you have put the paint down, use one of the tools, like stamps, stencils or other collected materials, like bubble wrap, rubber bands or expired credit cards to create texture and make interesting patterns.

  • To make your print, put some type of paper, like computer paper or tissue wrapping paper for example, and press it down with your hands evenly. Peel back the paper carefully to reveal your print.

  • You can repeat this process with the same print you had created before or start a new one.

  • After you are finished with your print making, Use a damp cloth or paper towel to wipe away any remaining paint from the plate. Be sure to wipe in a gentle, circular motion to avoid damaging the plate. Never use sharp objects on a gel plate. Dry off the plate and store it away from sun light preferably in the plastic box it came in.
